The story behind the art:

Zahra’s life unfolds within the confined rhythms of her family home, where the sixth grade marks the limit of her education, and the work of women is bound to cooking, cleaning, raising children, and weaving the stories of their heritage into fabric and thread. Before the return of the Taliban, even amid the wreckage of war and poverty, moments of beauty flourished, women adorning themselves with jewelry for celebrations, their clothes and ornaments a quiet assertion of dignity and pride. In these moments, their lives shone briefly beyond the hardship, their families uplifted by the simple joy of admiration and shared blessings.

Now, the return of the Taliban has cast a shadow over Zahra’s world, narrowing her existence to the walls of her home. Forbidden from walking freely, from speaking openly, or even revealing her face in the light of day, she is held as both the bearer of her family’s reputation and the prisoner of their fears. Yet, within such constraints, her spirit endures, her quiet strength a testament to the resilience of those who must bear the weight of the world unseen.
