Flying Hawk, like the people of the Great Sioux Nation, lived in deep kinship with the earth and sky, the sun and moon, the plants and animals. At the heart of their way of life was the belief that all things are bound together. He moved through the grasslands with his horse companion and equal, guided by the spirit world. The buffalo, sacred and essential, gave them food, clothing, and shelter, and were honored as powerful beings. Their nomadic life, rooted in extended families and shared purpose, fostered a strong sense of belonging. Through prayer and dreams, they stayed connected to their ancestors and to the Great Spirit, who made all things and holds them in unity.
