Smoke on Water - Miles Davis
TITLE: Smoke on Water - Miles Davis
Artist: Thomas Marshall Carnell
The story behind the art:
A young man deeply attuned to the rhythms of jazz, Miles Davis, still in his teens, accepted an invitation to join a well-known orchestra as a trumpeter. In time, his talent and vision led him to become the band's musical director. His path took him to the Juilliard School of Music, where he sought a deeper understanding of music theory and composition. But the world of jazz was steeped in more than melody, it carried the weight of addiction, a struggle Davis would face in cycles of dependence and recovery. Drawn to the cultural richness of Paris, he foundin its people a respect for Black jazz musicians that he had not always known at home. Through triumph and hardship, Davis’s life, inseparable from his music, shaped him into one of the most influential and revered figures in the history of jazz and 20th-century music.
