His love for tennis began with a single ball struck against a garage door, an object as unyielding and steady as the Swede would come to be. “I had two dreams,” Borg once said, “to play for the Swedish Davis Cup team and to step onto Centre Court at Wimbledon.” With long blond hair and an unshakable gaze, Borg moved from the baseline with a calm intensity that drew crowds without fanfare. He understood, as few do, that tennis is more than a contest of speed or strength, it is, above all, a test of solitude and spirit. “The hardest part,” he said, “is not the fitness, but the mind. Out there, you’re on your own.”
